           4, 4, 8, 12, 20, 32, 52, 84, 136, 220, ___ 336

The answer to the problem is 336.  I derived this from the difference between 
consecutive numbers.  8 and 4 is 4. 12 and 8 is also 4.  Therefore, the next number 
will be 12, the previous number, plus 8, the combined difference.
