FREE Throwing Demonstration Workshop

open to all

July 14, 2008 (Monday) 19h00-21h00
Dorval Potter’s Guild with the City of Dorval invites, the interested public, Montréal pottery guilds, potters and students to an evening with Tucker's Pottery Supply's Ian Chung and Shimpo's Yosuke Koizumi.

These two sponsors are providing a wheel-throwing demonstration for us. Yosuke Koizumi’s demonstrations focus on the spontaneity of Japanese pottery and include the throwing of a 50 lb bowl, graced by his trademark frog.

Yosuke Koizumi, received his BFA degree in ceramics from Tulane University in New Orleans. After graduating from college, Yosuke returned to Japan and worked as a production potter in the pottery village of Shigaraki for 2 years. During this period, Yosuke developed truly extraordinary throwing skills. Yosuke has been promoting the Shimpo Whisper wheels which he helped to design and develop.

The evening will conclude with a slide show of ceramic pieces. You will leave with ideas of new shapes to try and dreams of throwing large.

The event will be held on the terrace and in Salon A at the
Sarto Desnoyers Community Centre
